Q: Do you have a favorite season, favorite (human) character, and favorite scene? [Linda]
A: I liked when Bill Zorzi told the city editor to shove a broomstick up his ass. That made me happy.
Seriously, I can't parse it like that. Either the whole of the thing works or it doesn't. It's like we built
a house and you're asking me if I have a favorite window frame or cross-beam. I like the shape of the house.
I like the whole of it. For now anyway, we'll see in a few years. Sometimes, I look back at old writing and
it's, "Fuck, what was I thinking?"
Q: As part of the cyclical nature of the story, a favorite Internet game this week is to suggest who the new Bubbles
is, the new Omar, etc., as if the new generation are just identical cogs in the same system like the older generation.
Is that what you really meant to infer? [Howard]
A: To some certain extent, I think we did more than infer. We were pretty open and blunt about it.
